Kenya: Bamburi Rugby Super Series Finals Underway

Kenya's Top Fry Ndovu and Uganda's Rwenzori will meet in the 2013 Bamburi Rugby Super Series final at the RFUEA Grounds on Saturday, with East Africa’s premier trophy on the line. Ndovu reached the final with a 34-22 semi final win over UAP Papa at the RFUEA Grounds on Saturday 25 May while Rwenzori were 32-0 winners over Bollore Nyumbu in Kampala on the same day.

It is no secret of the importance this match holds to both sides, the Ndovu side, made up largely of Nakuru RFC and complimented by players from Eldoret, Egerton, Moi and Kitale eager to lift the trophy and cap what has been a successful fifteens season for the Rift Valley region, following Nakuru's Kenya Cup triumph earlier in the season.

However, there is a strong case for Rwenzori, they were the first Ugandan side to reach the BRSS final in 2012 when they went down 14-25 to the defunct Rhinos franchise. They also have a score to settle against their opponents who inflicted a 33-10 defeat when they dueled on 18 May in Kampala.  Meeting Ndovu at the RFUEA Grounds definitely gives Rwenzori an opportunity to turn the tables and in this case, the chance to go home with the trophy. Throw the small, or not so small matter of the cross border rugby rivalry between Kenya and Uganda on any given day and the Bamburi Rugby Super Series final should be an encounter not to be missed.

Top Fry Ndovu will rely on the likes of Javan Murayi, Gibson Weru, Dallo Chituyi, Lawrence Buyachi and Martin Muita to ensure that the trophy is headed to the Rift Valley. Rwenzori have in their ranks Alex Mubiru, Chris Lubanga, Gamma Faisal, Mugerwa Asuman and co as they seek to banish the memories of 2012 and end up on the correct side of the score sheet.

This match will be preceded by the third place playoff between UAP Papa and Bollore Nyumbu at 2.00pm.
