Kenyan midfielder Jamal Mohammed has said the team is determined to end
their win less run against Nigeria when the two teams clash in a World
Cup qualifier on June 5 (Wednesday).
The Al Nasr midfielder insists history will be irrelevant when the two sides clash and his side is determined to score a first win against their West African opponents.
Nigeria has won nine out of the 11 meetings against Kenya. The East African country has managed only two draws with the latest being the 1-1 draw in the first leg of the 2014 World Cup qualifier played in Calabar.
"As a team we feel it is a high time to end the dominance of our West African opponents and this time we have all the motivation to do it. We are playing at home and the team is motivated after picking that draw in Calabar," he told Goal.com.
Mohammed further pointed out that the gap between Kenya and Nigeria has narrowed significantly over the years and this he said gives them confidence going into the fixture.
He admitted that the team will miss striker Dennis Oliech and goalkeeper Arnold Origi but was quick to add that it is not about individuals but team work.
"Origi is always inspiring the team with his passion on the pitch and Oliech is an invaluable asset. However, a time has come when we now have to go out as a team and not focus on individuals."
He called on local fans to turn up in large numbers and rally behind the team during the match.
