Former Thika United striker Kepha Aswani has pointed out that his
decision to move to Oman has done well to revitalize his career.
Aswani, who has earned a call-up to the national team Harambee Stars
ahead of the June 5 World Cup qualifier against Nigeria, says he is glad
to have moved when he did.
Aswani is among foreign-based players who have linked up with
Harambee Stars training camp ahead of the decisive match against the
African champions. Others are Tanzanian-based duo of Humphrey Mieno,
Joackins Atudo of giants Azam FC and Jamal Mohammed (Oman).
In an interview with Goal.com, Aswani talks about his life in Oman and expectations ahead of the match against the Super Eagles.
Goal.com:You looked restless at Thika United just before moving to Oman. What exactly was going on with you?
Aswani: My career had hit a dead end at home and I
needed a new challenge. The environment was also not conducive and there
were many things taking away my focus from the game. The move to Oman
was therefore godsend. It could not have come at a better time. Until
then I was feeling like my career had stagnated and the environment did
not make things better. Going away was a good move because it gave me a
new focus and goals and pushed me to work hard.
Goal.com: How has the experience of playing in Oman changed your game?
Aswani: Professional football is a whole new
experience. The facilities are wonderful and the pay attractive. It
gives you an environment to improve your out-put as a player. I am a
better player now compared to my time at Thika United. Being away, it
was hard to think of anything else and therefore, inspired me to do my
best.

Goal.com: How long are you going to stay at Al-Nasr?
Aswani: I have a one year contract which is supposed
to end in December. However, I have received an offer in Finland with a
club I cannot reveal at the moment. They have asked me to attend a one
week trial after the match against Nigeria and then we will see how it
goes.
SHINING AT THIKA UNITED | Aswani is surprised that his former club Thika Utd are at the top of the log.
Goal.com: Your former club Thika United are having a great season this year. Are you surprised by their performance?
Aswani:I knew the team was capable of doing very
well but I am surprised that they are at the summit of the standings. It
shows that they have moved on without people like us and this is great
progress for the team.
Goal.com:You have been called to the national team for the
June 5 World Cup qualifier against Nigeria, what do you have to offer?
Aswani:Being away in Oman has taken my confidence to
an all time high considering that I scored seven goals in the just
concluded season. This gives me plenty of motivation ahead of the
Nigeria game. If I get an opportunity to play, there is a possibility I
can score goals.
Goal.com: There has been a problem with the team in terms of
scoring goals. The team does not have Dennis Oliech who is suspended.
Kenyans are looking to you for goals. What can you assure them?
Aswani:My message to Kenyan is very simple. They
must have faith in us because we have the possibility of lifting this
team to greater levels.
